Cavitation resistance

Service life:
Repair of a used part: the performance of a thermal-sprayed part versus an original one ranges from similar (using a very basic coating material, or one equivalent to the part's original material) up to 2–10 times the service life, by applying high-performance engineering materials. Use in manufacturing: when a particular material is specified based on mechanical–chemical behavior, the component's service life is only possible if the coating is applied.
Wear agent:
Particles traveling at high speed in fluids produce abrasive wear in line with the fluid's displacement. This can occur in liquid or gas flows.
Attack effect:
General aerodynamic deformation and/or profile change for surfaces in liquid fluids. Wall loss and consequent changes in mechanical and/or structural strength.
Layer description:
Protects the surface subjected to cavitation and extends its service life, or geometrically restores it.
Layer application:
When cavitation occurs in service. During the design stage it is determined that a material better suited to this function be added during the part's manufacture.
Material type:
High-chromium metal alloys. Nickel-base alloys. Carbides.
Typical location:
Areas exposed to erosion by particles suspended in fluids.

Anti-corrosion protection

Service life:
Lets a part or component operate while keeping its mechanical properties and performance in an environment where, without a protective layer, it could not survive.
Wear agent:
Liquid, solid or gaseous substance with corrosive attack
Attack effect:
Oxidation or corrosion of the substrate
Layer description:
Protects the coated part / area to prevent or delay chemical corrosion / oxidation.
Layer application:
Usually by design, application is recommended at the manufacturing stage. Later, while the component is in use, the layer can be replaced as it degrades—without replacing the coated component—if done in time.
Material type:
The material is selected according to its behavior against the medium causing the attack. For example, with sulphuric acid present, an acid-resistant material is chosen, such as Aluminum (metal) or Aluminum oxide (ceramic). Atmospheric corrosion: Aluminum, Zinc–Aluminum. Corrosion in salt / fresh water: Aluminum, Zinc–Aluminum, Zinc. Corrosion by salts: ceramic compounds, nickel-base superalloys, etc.
Typical location:
Exposed areas
